Introduction

 This article looks at Envelopes and what you need to know to set your files up for print.

Envelopes

Envelopes are a unique product in that they do not require bleed as we print directly onto an assembled envelope.

Things to be aware of when Designing

  1. There is a 5mm non-printing margin area around all edges of the envelope.
  2. Templates for envelopes are available to download, we highly recommend using them.
  3. When printing on window envelopes, there is a 6mm non-printing margin around the window.
  4. With Self Seal envelopes, we recommend not placing colour around the flap area (top of envelope) due to the added thickness of that area.
  5. Do not print full solid blocks of colour on the envelope, this can lead to your file being rejected. Envelopes are best for small logos, graphics and text.
Info: Envelopes are printed on uncoated stock, so colours will not match any other products.
Avoid areas of heavy ink coverage, because the stock is more absorbent than letterhead stock.

Mail Merging

If your envelopes are to be mail merged, please refer to the Variable Data online resource. You do not need to upload a fully merged document. It is preferred that the Pre-press team does this instead as it allows them more control for printing purposes.
